The Massey Tower

MOD Developments have just closed the deal on their second major downtown property. They announced last moth their acquisition of a 20,000-square-foot site that runs from 197-201 Yonge Street, including the 1905 Darling & Pearson-designed Canadian Bank of Commerce building (the southernmost of the two with the columns—it’s been vacant since 1987).

MOD, which is also developing Five Condos, is partnering with several other firms to build what they propose will be a 60-storey tower condo, including a full renovation of the Darling & Pearson building.

As part of the deal, MOD announced it would be donating part of the land on Victoria Street to Massey Hall to do with as they wish. MOD is also proposing to name their tower after the Massey family.

Designed by the renowned architectural firm Hariri Pontarini Architects, winners of the coveted Governor General’s Medal for architectural excellence, the soaring Massey Tower Condos will feature retail, residential and non-residential uses.

MOD has assembled the same “dream” team that collaborated on the successful FIVE Condos: Tricon Capital Group Inc. as financial partners; Hariri Pontarini Architects as project architects; ERA Architects will focus on heritage; Cecconi Simone Interiors will provide interior design direction; and Janet Rosenberg and Associates as landscape architects.


A dramatic 60 storey modern point tower designed by the award-winning architectural firm, Hariri Pontarini Architects, integrating the historically designated 1905 Canadian Bank of Commerce Building at 197 Yonge Street, on the east side of Yonge Street, north of Queen Street. The lobby and extensive amenities designed by internationally renowned interior design firm Cecconi Simone. The entrance and lobby of the Massey Tower Condos will be in the restored bank building. The Massey Club will feature fitness and weight rooms with steam-rooms, a piano bar, cocktail lounge, party room, kitchen and dining room that opens onto spectacular roof gardens designed by the acclaimed landscape architect Janet Rosenberg and Associates.
